What is Epicentre AIOur homes and neighbourhoods, and businesses are increasingly equipped with smart doorbells and CCTV systems – technology that silently watches and records, providing a potent tool in crime prevention and detection. EPICENTRE AI leverages this collective power of public vigilance and technological innovation, allowing us to reclaim control over our local security. It creates a cohesive network, a kind of digital neighbourhood watch, transforming everyone’s surveillance device into a critical part of a community-wide effort to deter crime and ensure justice. Traditional methods of data collection have required officers to go door-to-door, manually requesting video footage, and painstakingly uploading it to a database. But today, we're excited to unveil Epicentre, a game-changing platform that will accelerate the investigation process and bring criminals to justice more efficiently than ever before. With Epicentre AI, detectives can simply submit a line query via their mobile device right from the crime scene. Our advanced AI system then leaps into action, automatically requesting and uploading targeted video data from CCTV and other sources. But that's just the beginning. Epicentre's cutting-edge computer vision and machine learning algorithms analyse and search the footage, rapidly outputting a probable route and location of a suspect, or multiple suspects.

Why is it needed?Currently if there is a crime, in particular a major crime, the police will visit the sight and eyeball CCTV systems, including residential systems such as RING doorbells or Verisure etc. The police will then approach you in the hope that you would be willing to give them a sample of your footage for their investigation. The police will then need to review this footage looking for any suspicious behaviour. We believe this to be an inefficient use of police time, presents a privacy issue and also can lead to contributors being targeted by the criminals themselves. Epicentre AI is a privacy protected, double opt in system that sends a text to participants in a given radius requesting the same footage a police officer would request. By streamlining the evidence-gathering process and harnessing the power of artificial intelligence, Epicentre empowers law enforcement officers to focus on what they do best: solving crimes and keeping our communities safe.

How does it work?Primarily it relies on you, the contributor. Think about how you currently ask or obtain information about a crime that has taken place in your neighbourhood. 100,000's of people are members of local WhatsApp groups and regularly share videos with their neighbours hoping to gain enough evidence to assist the police or to prevent future crimes. Epicentre AI is a double opt in system - The first opt in is when you initially sign up to the system. Whilst some initial information such as name, address, camera system, is required, we will hold this information in a secure GDPR regulated database. If Epicentre AI is utilised to investigate a suspected criminal incident, within a given distance of your location, you will be sent a notification (generally via text) to ask you to submit a segment of video data from your system. This is your 2nd opportunity to opt-in Should you then contribute to the investigation, your data and shared video footage is still held securely and confidentially on our system. If Epicentre AI analyses the supplied video data and finds no suspicious activity, the video data is deleted and you won't be approached again for this incident. If however something is deemed as suspicious on the footage, this activity will be added to a geolocated map in an effort to build a pattern of behaviour and therefore an end location. The original video footage will be stored in an auditable location as part of the the evidence file that can be accessed by the police and any future defence or prosecution service. It is important to note that during the processing phase, Epicentre AI is fully automated and the data isn't viewed by human and therefore protected.

How do I submit data?Having opted in to the system, you will only receive a request for a submission of data if you are unfortunate to be within the radius of a reported crime. Should you wish to contribute data then we will direct you to a portal through which you can submit video data. If you own a smart doorbell system you will need to go to your account dashboard and located the relevant file/data. You will need to download this to your home PC and then upload it to Epicentre AI. In future iterations as we grow there may be an automated option where Epicentre AI can request the small amount of relevant data only, direct from your service provider. This process will always be with your explicit approval. Customer privacy and protection is extremely important to us.

Will my video contribution be viewed?Since Epicentre is an automated system, your supplied vide data will be held securely on our systems and processed through our computer vision and Machine learning systems. If there is no suspicious activity detected on your submission, the data will be deleted. If however there is deemed to be enough suspicious activity, pertaining to the reported crime, detected on your submission, then your data will be stored and may be shared with the relevant authorities as part of the wider crime investigation. The police are not initially given the data unless a threshold is passed that warrants further investigation. Each submission with be referenced to a specific crime number.
